Continuing my on-and-off miniproject of Great Crusade era Legion characters, here's Raldoron (Ral, if you are a friendly winged demigod of war), first captain of the 9th Legion Blood Angels, and later first Chapter Master after the Heresy.
He always stroke me as a very rational, reserved, humble character. Seriously concerned with the fate of his Primarch and his increasingly moody behaviour. His gene-father Sanguinius carries around him a sense of aloofness, an otherwordly aura that separates him from the world of simple mortals. He can literally fly away and leave earthly concerns behind, and he often yearns for it. In contrast, Raldoron has his feet firmly planted on the ground and concerns himself with the almost mundane duties that running a Legion of post-human warriors entails.
I wanted to represent him looking upwards to his increasingly detached gene-father, a measure of concern on his face. The light of the Angel not able to dispel the shadows of his worries and the darkness and promise of violence always lurking near those of the Blood.
